Day2-Thursday

SiteVisit-2017
Day 2 Thursday 21st September:

Protocol is that a visit to the District Executive Officer Margaret Nakainga, the District Commissioner Angelina Kwingwa, the Director of Education, Education’s Secondary and Primary and the Immigration Dept are priority on your first day, so that these officers of the Urambo District Council are aware of the visit by the Link and the planned programme. We received a warm welcome from each Officer and they expressed an interest in the Link’s support for Nkokoto.

The Boss
Stima and Family
They acknowledged the severe level of poverty that exists in villages such as Nkokoto and Vumilia, and the very limited help that they can give and were very appreciative of the work the Links do in the two villages. Stima and I then made our way to the FDC for a brief meeting with Herman Nestory, the Principal, and then to Stima’s home for a light lunch of nuts, bread and honey, met the family, took photos, then returned to base to discuss the problems of the Elders at Nkokoto who want to get their hands on the Link’s money. They believe that they should have access to the Link bank account in Urambo as they claim that it is their money. Later in the week I met the Elders and told them in no uncertain terms that this is not the case, and it is not Stima, nor Issa, nor me who makes decisions where we spend the money but it is the Link Committee who paid. Anyone in Minchinhampton would know what would happen to the money if the Elders had open access to it!!!
