Day8-Weds.&Departure

SiteVisit-2017
Wednesday 27th September

To the District Commissioner’s Office to report on our week’s findings. She was most supportive and thrilled with the week’s work. The DC knows fully the problems that the people of her district face on a daily basis and I believe that the Link has now established an excellent relationship with her that will prove valuable in the future.

Thursday 28th / Friday 29th September

Begin journey home, Tabora, Dar es Salaam, Dubai, Heathrow, Reading, Stroud and to a shower and lovely toilet!!

Thoughts:

This report can’t possibly include every detail of the visit but being my third time in Nkokoto, I am now beginning to develop a greater understanding of the place and its people. Stima, Augustine and with Issa’s help, make the job of meeting, talking, discussing, listening, watching, evaluating and judging much easier. They found my attempts at Kiswahili amusing and were always ready to take time to explain and answer my questions. I met for the first time, the verbally aggressive and demanding  (towards Issa and Stima, not to me) side of some members of the Nkokoto Committee, including the Chairman, where they want to control the Link bank account in the NMB Bank at Urambo.

Many of the villagers’ requests are unrealistic and out of the question but many are do-able by the Link over the next few years. But every day I saw in the villagers’ faces the problems they have to surmount on a daily basis, especially having to fetch and carry water – but it is clean, fresh and healthy in the boreholes –  providing food for the family and dealing with the uncertainty of what tomorrow will bring. The village people and those in Urambo certainly don’t lack any warmth in their welcomes and are always pleased to see musungu from Minchinhampton. Tanzania’s richest asset is without fail its people. If the Link can continue to work with the people, we will make a difference to life in this village.
